A special pre-registration is being planned for current DM swimmers. This is being done so you can avoid the rush, hassle and delays that are sometime unavoidable if you wait until the 1999-2000 swim season starts in September of 1999.
Mark the week of August 2 on your calendar as "PRE-REGISTRATION WEEK"!
This is being done so that current team members can get "paperwork ready" for the coming season and not stand in line with the influx of new swimmers trying out for DM each September. Of equal importance is our ability to reasonably administer new North Texas USA swimming rules that require birth certificates on each swimmer.
A packet of information will be placed in each swimmer's folder during the second half of July and notices placed on the team bulletin boards. Included in the packet will be pre-registration instructions; forms to be completed; a current statement of your dues balance; and information on any changes to team policies or operation for the next swim season.
If you do not have a birth certificate, other documents that list the swimmer's date of birth and full legal name are accepted such as a passport, visa or drivers license. A photocopy of the document is fine.
No, if you have already provided us with a birth certificate you don't need to do it again.
No, only swimmers that have joined us since April of this year have been required to provide a birth certificate thus far. Please, wait until you register for the next swim season.
Yes, but this isn't final but will be complete and fully detailed in the pre-registration packet. You will need to:
(1) Verify current records that we have for things such as name, address, phone number, etc.
(2) Provide a birth certificate
(3) Pay any outstanding dues balance
(4) Pay applicable 1999-2000 USA Swimming and DM Registration Fees
Complete the registration packet and register during the week we return in early September. However, the swimmer may not participate in workouts until they are cleared through registration.
Please feel free to contact John Wherry, DM Registrar, at 972-418-1544 or send him an email at

The older swimmers from the Gold and National Groups (in conjunction with swimmers from LAC) have the opportunity to attend a training camp in Los Alamos, New Mexico. The plans are as follows: Swimmers will fly to Albuquerque on December 18th and drive up to Los Alamos in vans. They will return on December 22nd. Swimmers will participate in training sessions the majority of the time with an optional opportunity to go skiing one afternoon. The total cost for the trip is $400 (meals, entertainment and ski lift/equipment NOT included). A deposit of $15 should be given to Mook by July 15th to reserve a spot. As with other team-sponsored events, chaperones are more than welcome. More information regarding the camp can be obtained from Mook at Loos.
Adele Wherry has taken on the task of handling the meet account and will be sending out statements shortly. Please examine your accounts carefully. If there are any questions you might have regarding your account, please call Adele at 972-418-1544 or you can speak with her at Loos.
Kyle Dvorak and Jerry Saunders are now manning the Supply Room at Loos. Although the hours of the Supply Room remain the same (Tues. and Thurs. from 5:45 7:15 p.m.), many times Kyle is there earlier in the day during Gold and National workouts. The Supply Room at Highland Park remains unmanned by a volunteer parent. Until such time that that situation changes, equipment and apparel orders can be obtained from the coaches. However, please approach the coaches BEFORE or AFTER practice so that there is no interruption of a group workout.
Its that time of year again! As was mentioned at the start of this newsletter, there are several swimmers who have already qualified for individual and relay events in long course TAGS. And two TAGS qualifying meets still remain! As in times past, the accomplishments of the swimmers who do qualify for TAGS are celebrated by the whole team in the form of a TAGS fire-up party. This year the party will be held at Loos from 6 7 p.m. on July 19th. THERE WILL NOT BE ANY WORKOUTS AT HIGHLAND PARK THAT EVENING. Swimmers need to bring: a) $3 to cover the cost of food and beverages, b) an encouraging attitude, and c) a loud cheering voice. This is a wonderful opportunity to encourage your teammates, show your support and just have fun. And remember, that is when the secret TAGS T-shirts will be revealed! Dont miss it!
We have new polo and denim parent team shirts for sale at the Supply Room at Loos or at Highland Park. The shirts are embroidered with the newer team logo, designed by Tom Buck, formerly the Loos Silver coach with our team. The denim shirts are $30 each and the polo shirts are $22 each; the polo shirts can be purchased in either blue or white. Please consider buying one or the other (or both!) to show our team spirit at meets!
During the past season, there have been some changes made (due to elections, etc.) to the Board of Directors. Below is an updated listing of the Dallas Mustangs Board Members from Highland Park and Loos. If you have questions or concerns regarding the team please feel free to call any one on the list. Also, please know that meetings are open to any parents and although the location varies, that information may be obtained from any one of the Board members. The next board meeting will be held at the home of Don Haney on July 11th at 7 pm.
Please pay close attention to scheduling changes in July. The DASA meet is being held at Loos on July 12th, 13th and 15th. That means that there will not be any evening practices at Loos - all evening practices will be held at H.P. as indicated on the calendar. Also, the practice schedule changes back to the "fall" format (with the exception of Bronze 1 and 2). Finally, the team break will be from August 16th September 3rd. This means that THERE WILL NOT BE ANY SWIMMING AT LOOS OR HIGHLAND PARK FOR 3 WEEKS.
We are proud to have 23 post age-group "Senior" swimmers currently registered and representing the Dallas Mustangs. Most of these swimmers are currently in college and register with our team during the summer. Some are post-college swimmers competing in national and international events.
Included in this group are recent DM age-group swimmers such as Nathan Rice (University of Kansas), Jeff Graves (Boston University) and Wes Teter (George Washington University). Also registered to compete are DM Hall of Fame Members Katie McClelland (multi-NCAA All American), Jeff Livingston (multi-NCAA All American) and Ryan Berube (1996 Olympic Gold Medallist).
Now you say - "Whoa there, where are they, I don't see them!"
Well, many of these swimmers work out along with the Gold and National teams at the SMU outdoor pool. These workouts are held Monday through Friday from 7-9am during the summer. The workouts are jointly held by Mook Rhodenbaugh, our head coach; Chris Girard, our Gold coach; Eddie Sinnott, SMU Men's coach; and Steve Collins, SMU Women's coach.
Bronze and Silver swimmers - some morning this summer when you have "nothing to do" - drag Mom or Dad to the car and head down to SMU and see where your efforts can take you. Special note - La Madeline is right near the pool on Mockingbird near Central so you can reward yourself for getting out so early.
We would like to thank the following swimmers and their families for referring new swimmers to the Dallas Mustangs. These referrals are for swimmers joining our team from December through February. Credits have been posted to the accounts of the following swimmers equal to one month's dues. For your records, credit memos have also been placed in the swimmer's folders -
In order to receive a referral credit (equal to a single month of dues for one swimmer), a new swimmer must list the name of a currently active member on their registration form. The new member must be part of a competition group. The new member must be in good standing (dues paid up to date) for three consecutive months. If there are any questions about this program, why you were, or were not listed, contact the DM Registration Chairperson, John Wherry, at 972-418-1544.
