MEET RECAPS

DM “A” Meet (Oct 26-28)

This meet was originally supposed to be hosted by GCAT but at the last minute when they could not put the meet on our team picked up the slack and hosted it at Loos and did a great job of running it especially with the huge challenge of recruiting volunteers in the eleventh hour.  The Mustangs finished a respectable 2nd in the team race out of 18 teams competing.  Most of the swimmers who participated had at least one best time.  Thanks to all who pitched in and made it work!

The following swimmers scored points in at least one event and those bolded won at least one event.  Go Mustangs!

Christopher Alkire (13), Jack Beckwitt (16), Luke Blaylock (12), Caroline Florence (10), Erin Florence (12), Eric Futscher (12), Melanie Futscher (17), Tiffany Futscher (10), Des Godfrey (15), Laura Gray (12), Audrey Gruber (11), Emma Gruber (12), Jacey Hodan (14), Katherine Jones (17), Leah Jones (15), Avery Kesterson (10), Caitlin Klemme (12), Fernando Lara (16), Barrett Mark (16), Stephanie Martin (17), Will McNamara (14), Kenzie Murphy (10), Lauren Murski (12), Jordan Newman (15), Courtney Nichols (11), Natalie Rathjen (11), Lauren Roth (17), Nicholas Saliba (16), Jessica Temple (17), Taylor Temple (14),  Matt Thompson (17), Harrison Tran (12), Caleb Veazey (17), Jake Watters (12), Keegan Watters (15), Catia Weickgenant (17)

LAC BB/B/C Meet (Nov 9-11)

This meet was held at the LISD Natatorium in Flower Mound and it seemed to run much better this year than last year.  Rumors of the meet ending at 10 pm the year before kind of hampered our efforts to get a critical mass up at the meet but those that did show up did a great job.  We finished third as a team in the meet despite our lack of bodies in the water.  Many Mustangs got their all important A or BB times which allowed them to move up to the next level of meet and/or practice group.  Way to go Mustangs!  Those swimmers who scored points in either the BB, B, or C divisions are listed below.

Davis Benn (11), Parker Benn (8), Caroline Blaylock (10), Carolina Campbell (8), Parker Capron (10), Stephen Cheng (8), Eliza Cope (11), Nolan Daniels (11), Patrick Daniels (9), Clare Donaldson (10), Erika Echaniz (8), JJ Echaniz (13), Kendall Ernst (11), Nicole Ewer (11), Emilee Gant (9), Seth Gerstenfeld (8), Sara Granger (13), Kaylan Hardin (10), Jon Hoffman (13), Jacob Hum (8),  Pauli Kerr (9), Morgan Koranda (12), Briana Kuhn (8), Tara Lalvani (9), Cameron Malakoff (10), Mika Malouf (10), Mary Katherine Mangin (12), Boni McVey (10), Ishan Mistry (7), Natalie Morris (10), Reese Myers (12), Jeffrey Nichols (13), Sydney Patterson (13), Laura Rathjen (11), Shauna Seidel (9), Mary-Carolyn Sloan (9), Alex Tcheng (8), Dylan Tcheng (10), Annelyse Tullier (10), Dana Valelly (9), Jake Varela (7), Ellie Ward (11), Elizabeth Wessman (8), Rebecca Wessman (8), William Wessman (9), Megan Yancey (10), Jaclyn Zhou (12), Max Zotos (11)

COR Classic “A” Meet (Nov 30-Dec 2)

This annual affair is held at Loos Natatorium and is a prelim/final meet so it gives many kids an opportunity to swim fast before the holidays.  As a team we swam very well and were 2nd out of 28 participating teams and not too far off of first place.  If our intention was to win the meet we could have probably done it if many of our older swimmers hadn’t opted to get their studies in order instead of coming back and swimming finals.  School does come first!  (As hard as it is for me sometimes to accept that as a coach).  There are many times I wish someone would have pushed me harder to make the grade when I was a kid!

We had such success in the meet that several swimmers achieved Sectional, TAGS, and multiple “A” time standards while getting quite a few lifetime best times.  Those that scored points for the team are listed below.  Awesome job Mustangs!

Kendel Ahnell (15), Christopher Alkire (14), Aaron Applebaum (14), Allison Arnold (15), Megan Arnold (17), Cassidy Beckwitt (15), Jack Beckwitt (16), Luke Blaylock (12), Megan Ernst (14), Hannah Ferrin (16), Caroline Florence (10), Erin Florence (13), Eric Futscher (12), Melanie Futscher (17), Tiffany Futscher (10), Des Godfrey (15), Laura Gray (12), Audrey Gruber (11), Emma Gruber (12), Bolton Harris (17), Jacey Hodan (14), Greg Hoffman (16), Alvin Jiang (8), Katherine Jones (17), Leah Jones (16), Malin Kenny (15), Avery Kesterson (10), Caitlin Klemme (12), Fernando Lara (16), Barrett Mark (16), Will McNamara (14), Connor Mullen (11), Kenzie Murphy (10), Sam Murphy (13), Lauren Murski (12), Jordan Newman (15), Courtney Nichols (11), Blake Osborn (14), Adam Rathjen (10), Natalie Rathjen (11), Nicholas Saliba (17), Erin Smith (17), Jessica Temple (17), Taylor Temple (14), Leon Tjahjono (14), Andrew Tran (16), Harrison Tran (12), Liam Veazey (14), Casey Watters (14), Jake Watters (12), Keegan Watters (15), Meaghan Watters (17)

2007 Chesapeake Pro-Am Meet Results

The Mustangs wrapped up the 2007 swimming schedule with a successful trip to Oklahoma City for the 16th Annual Chesapeake Elite Pro-Am Swim Meet.  This is always an exciting meet, bringing in teams from all over the country.  This year’s meet also had its share of Olympians, including Aaron Peirsol, Ian Crocker, Neil Walker, Megan Jendrick, Rachel Komisarz, and Kristy Coventry.  To spice things up even more than the great competition, the meet offered prize money for the professional athletes, paying $2,000 for one of the events!

The Mustangs competed extremely well as a team and came away as the overall team champions of the meet.  Matt Thompson, Lauren Roth, Caleb Veazey and Allison Arnold scored points in all of their five individual events, and Spin Beck finished in the top three in four events.  The Mustang relays stepped up again across the board, including wins in the Men’s 800 free relay and the Women’s 400 medley relay.  Congratulations Mustangs, on a great team effort!

Attention Mustang Parents

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!

The Dallas Mustangs will host both the "A Champs" and “BB Champs” meets February 15-17 at Loos.   These two championship meets will run simultaneously at opposite ends of the pool and we expect that there will be many, many swimmers attending.

We will need a large number of volunteers to run these two meets.  Volunteers are needed to assist with hospitality, clerk of course, heat sheet sales, timing, awards processing, data processing and administration, and safety marshals.  None of these jobs are difficult or require special training.

Volunteers earn “Mustang Bucks”, good towards credit on your swimmer’s monthly tuition.  And remember, hosting swim meets earns money for our team, which offsets expenses and keeps our tuition lower.  So you can see that hosting well run meets benefits our team and each of us individually also.

Sign up sheets will be posted at Loos and HP beginning the week of January 14.   Please help us conduct two successful meets by signing up to help at one or both meets.  You can also contact one of the meet directors below to express your interest or get additional information.   We sincerely appreciate your participation and look forward to working with you all!

Fundraising

To keep our team tuition and dues relatively stable;

to be able to pay pool rental so our kids have a place to practice;

to be able to pay for professional training for our coaches;

for a thousand other really good reasons:

we need to fund raise.

HOWEVER, this fund raiser is totally different. You don't have to take orders or collect money or deliver anything. If you can answer either of these two questions with a "YES" then you can help our team in less than 5 minutes.

1. Do you drink coffee?

2. Do you know anyone who drinks coffee?

Over Christmas, we sold Dallas Mustang Championship Coffee and everyone who drank it seemed to love it. Of course, this coffee is roasted right here in Dallas (Not Seattle) by the award winning White Rock Coffee from the highest quality, organic, fair trade, rain forest friendly beans from around the world. Just in that very limited holiday sale the team made about $450. If you will cut and paste the following information and send it to friends and family, the Dallas Mustangs can attain a revenue stream that will help our team grow.

Here is where you need to go to order more coffee for your house:

www.coffeewithacause.com

Here is the information to send (feel free to edit for your purpose):

"Fund raisers stink don't they? Wouldn't it be nice if you could participate in a fund raiser where you received a high quality product that you use all of the time (just say no to bad wrapping paper!) and didn't make you feel like children were being exploited, or that the product was inferior and over-priced?

My child's swimming team, The Dallas Mustangs, has partnered with White Rock Coffee, an award winning, Dallas-based roaster of some of the the highest quality, organic, fair trade, and rain forest friendly coffee beans from around the world. This quality coffee far exceeds the huge corporate roasters that you see on every corner. White Rock Coffee's website: www.coffeewithacause.com , allows non-profit organizations like our swim team (2007 Junior National Championship Team, by the way!) to raise money for scholarships and other programs that support and grow the sport of swimming. You can also register your own non-profit cause at the web site and start earning money for your group.

Won't you consider going to www.coffeewithacause.com and making a purchase or subscribing to receive a monthly purchase!  Coffee With a Cause will mail your freshly roasted coffee to you within a couple of days of your order. This is a great way to raise money and is good for the environment as well.

Thanks for supporting the Dallas Mustangs!"

Tuition Policy

The Dallas Mustangs is a competitive year round age-group swimming program.  As such we strive to provide consistent quality coaching and workout facilities.  To achieve this goal we establish pool rental contracts and salary commitments with our coaching staff for a full 12-month period.  The Dallas Mustangs Swim Team is not, and was not designed to be a swim program where swimmers drop in one month and out the next.  Flexibility has always been important to us.  We try to work with each family on the team and we will continue to do so.

Tuition may be paid annually or monthly.  Monthly Tuition must be paid via electronic bank draft or credit card only.  NO checks will be accepted at any pools or through the mail.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  Annual tuition may be paid by check submitted with your registration form.

·        Tuition is due from September through July.

·        Leave of Absence (LOA) is available only for injury and medical reasons.

·        There will be a $10.00 per month discount for the second and subsequent swimmers in the same family.  The fourth swimmer is free.

·        If dues are paid annually, there will be a $110.00 discount for the second swimmer and a $220.00 discount for the third swimmer. If there are more than 3 swimmers; the three highest tuition rates will be billed and the 4th and subsequent swimmers are free.

·        A swimmer transferring from another team must be in good standing with their old team.

·        Tuition is due the first of every month. There will be a $5.00 per family late fee after the 10th of the month for non-zero balance accounts.

·        There are no tuition refunds, tuition paid for the month or the year commits you for that period.

·        Written communication to the DM Treasurer is required to change or stop automatic billing.

·        The swimmer(s) may be barred from swimming if there is an aged account balance is excess of 60 days.
