Swim-A-Thon
We are Mustangs! This year’s
Swim-a-thon is going to be a PARTY!!!
No more drudgery of swimming 200 laps
in two hours. This year, you will swim for only one hour, and you will swim to
music and the cheers of your teammates. So let’s get fired up for the FUTURE
FUND OF THE DALLAS MUSTANGS!
DATE: Wednesday, April 4, 2004 at Loos (there will be
no other practices offered).
Get Sponsors
Each Dallas Mustang swimmer should find
sponsors to support them in swimming a continuous one-hour swim of a maximum of
100 lengths (25 yards each length) equating to 2,500 yards. The people you
support are the ones to approach. Parents, please help your swimmer with
selecting potential donors.
Yes, you’ve given money to them, now
it’s their turn to support you and your swimmer!
·
restaurants that you
frequent,
·
your dentist,
·
orthodontist,
allergist, dermatologist, doctor,
·
lawyer,
·
grocery store
manager,
·
computer support
person
·
car dealerships,
etc. are just a few to consider.
Get Family
Don’t forget your extended family -
grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins who might be happy to support you and your
team. You can always use the support of your neighbors, girlfriends, boyfriends
and folks you consider to be friends.
Your Goal
The success of the Operating
Swim-a-Thon is based on each swimmer raising a minimum of $150. That is only
six pledges of $25. Or five pledges of $30! Or three pledges of $50!
Prizes
Each swimmer achieving this goal will
receive a very cool, specially designed tee shirt commemorating their
participation in this event. Of course, $150 is just a baseline. For
those who raise more, there will be additional awards - the top 35 money
raisers will receive a prize (from a video IPOD, Ipod Nanos, compact digital
cameras and digital calculator clocks to name a few).
There will be two grand prize awards, a
video IPod will be given to the top-earning swimmer of the Mustangs. To the
family that earns the most a $100 dinner card for Maggiano's Little Italy and a
DVD player for the family.
Get
ready for a fun-filled evening of swimming for the entire team (parents and
siblings included) at Loos.
Packets with more details will be
handed out Monday March 19th.

CONGRATULATIONS, MUSTANGS!!!!
A Message from Mook
How can parents help their children?
Interestingly, there is a
positive side to the idea of ‘parental pushing’. USA Swimming research
conducted in 1996 shows that kids say parents can enhance fun in swimming by
providing a push. Be careful, however. Remember that there is a fine
line between pushing in a positive way and pushing to the detriment of kids’
enjoyment. It seems a slight push from parents can enhance subsequent
enjoyment and, as kids point out, is often needed. Optimal push shows love,
support and caring without applying undue pressure. A parent who encourages a
child to attend practice and who is ready, willing and able to drive the child
shows that he cares about the child’s interest and successful development. A
parent who takes a “hands off approach” hoping to avoid pressuring the child
may actually be sending the message “I don’t care about you and your
activities!” Be there, be available, ready, willing and able to help. Sometimes
we all need a little push to get us moving, to get us out of bed, into the car
and into the pool. We need to know that someone cares. A child who says “do I
have to go to swim practice?” may be very happy to have you make the decision
by saying “yes.” He may just want to see if you care.
An old
Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.
"A fight
is going on inside me," he said to the boy. "It is a terrible fight
and it is between two wolves."
One is evil.
He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt,
resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is
good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence,
empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
This same
fight is going on inside you -- and inside every other person, too."
The grandson
thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,
"Which
wolf will win?"
The old
Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

DM Tuition Policy Reminder
The Dallas
Mustangs is a competitive year round age-group swimming program. As such we strive to provide consistent
quality coaching and workout facilities.
To achieve this goal we establish pool rental contracts and salary
commitments with our coaching staff for a full 12-month period. Tuition amounts
are established based on the 12-month budget and divided into monthly or
quarterly amounts to provide reasonable payment options for our Dallas Mustang
families. The Dallas Mustangs Swim Team
is not, and was not designed to be a swim program where swimmers drop in one
month and out the next. Flexibility has
always been important to us. We try to
work with each family on the team and we will continue to do so.
Tuition may be paid
quarterly: September, December, March, and June, or monthly. Tuition paid monthly includes a $5.00 per
month processing fee. (If tuition for
the quarter is not paid by the due date, monthly payment has automatically been
selected.)
·
Tuition
is due from September through August.
(If you swim in July, you are responsible for August tuition.)
·
Tuition
is due on the 1st of each month/quarter.
·
Leave of Absence (LOA) is available only
for injury and medical reasons.
·
There
will be a $10.00 per month tuition discount for the second and subsequent
swimmers in the same family. The fourth
swimmer is free, but all swimmers must pay the annual registration fee.
·
A
swimmer transferring from another team must be in good standing with their old
team.
·
Statements
are only mailed quarterly. If you have chosen to pay monthly, it is your
responsibility to remember to mail or drop off tuition by the first of each
month that we do not send statements.
·
There
will be a $5.00 per family late fee after the 10th of the month for non-zero
balance accounts.
·
The swimmer(s) may be barred from
swimming if there is an aged account balance is excess of 60 days.
·
Please
indicate in the memo portion of all checks what the payment is for (i.e. Dues –
swimmer’s name, meet account, supplies, etc.).
·
If
there is a problem with your billing, please contact the treasurer.
·
Should
circumstances prevent full payment of your tuition, please contact the
president. Scholarships and alternate
payment plans will be addressed on a case by case basis. (Please Note: Lack of communication is not an
option!)
·
Should
you choose to leave the team – it is your responsibility to contact the
treasurer or registration chairman.
(Informing the coach does not fulfill this responsibility!)
·
If you choose to leave the team for the
summer, you must go through the tryout process in the fall. You may not return
to workouts until you have attended the tryout, completed paperwork and paid
your fees. You are not automatically
guaranteed a spot on the team. If your group is full, your name will be placed
on the waiting list. Any tuition/fee
balances that were not paid when you left the team must be paid prior to
re-joining the team.
·
If
you choose to leave the team at any point during the year, you MAY NOT
represent the Dallas Mustangs at any swim meet or event that occurs after the
date you have left the team. Should you choose to participate in a swim meet
after you have left the team, you must register for the meet and swim as
unattached (Team = UN).
·
Tuition
may be sent with the swimmer to the pool, or mailed to the Treasurer:
DM
Treasurer – Shannon Rusch
.
