“A” Short
Course Championships
Despite opting out of the high scoring relay events and
not having our 15 and over National kids swimming, the Mustangs managed to
place a very respectable 3rd place at the “A” Champs meet, also known as TAGS
Q. The meet was held at Southlake at the same time as the BB Champs. For some,
this was the big taper meet and for those swimmers, they were trying to extend
their season by qualifying for the higher level meets in the weeks to
come. For others who had already
qualified for those meets, it was a last chance to sharpen their skills in
preparation for TAGS and Sectionals. All 12 and unders competed in the morning
session, and 13 and overs competed in the afternoon. Unfortunately, ice on the
roads on Saturday afternoon prevented the older swimmers from swimming and that
session was rescheduled for the next weekend.
Congratulations to Greg Hoffman, Fernando Lara, Natalie
Rathjen, Keegan Watters, and Jon Hoffman for achieving new TAGS times at the
meet!
Congratulations to the following point scorers; bolded
names signify winning at least one event:
Harrison Tran, Jake Watters, Luke Blaylock, Liam Veazey, Jon Hoffman, Eric Futscher, Malin
Kenny, Tim Moore, Fernando Lara, Jack Beckwitt, Greg Hoffman, Steven Nichols, Paul Gerard,
Nicholas Saliba, Kenneth Clark-Fernandez, Burke Wiggins, David Escamilla,

BB Champs
At the BB Championships, held February 17-19 at
Southlake, the Mustangs placed a strong 7th place overall, again
without swimming any relays. The meet was held at the same pool and during the
same weekend as “A” Champs, so many of the BB swimmers were able to help cheer
on their “A” teammates, and vice versa. The ice storm postponed the Saturday
afternoon session, and many of the Mustangs didn’t come back the following week
at the rescheduled meet. Well done to the Mustangs who scored points for their
team! Swimmers whose names are bolded won at least one event.

B/C Short Course Championships
The Mustangs hosted the B/C
Short Course Championships for swimmers ages 12 and under at the familiar
confines of Loos Natatorium. Many
Mustang parents and older swimmers volunteered to help the meet run smoothly
and quickly and showed up despite the ice and snow on the roads! We finished an
impressive 2nd place out of more than 25 teams. DM swam very well
with lots of best times and a few new “BB” times. Kudos to Mustangs who
achieved at least one new BB time at this meet: Emily Fitzgerald, Laura
Ambrose, Christy Purnadi, Sydney Lacey, Erin Florence, Connor Mullen, Jo Jo
Veazey, Caelan Freeman and George Scheer.
Below is a list of those who
competed in the meet. Those that are
bolded won at least one event in either the “B” or “C” divisions. Way to go, Mustangs!

TAGS
Short Course Championships
TAGS is the top qualifying championship meet for 14 and
under swimmers throughout the state of Texas and this year’s meet was held right
here in North Texas from March 9-12th. Swimmers must achieve
difficult time standards in individual events (usually between AA and AAA
times) or qualify on a Mustang relay to attend this prestigious event. Over 40
DM swimmers worked hard to be able to compete at TAGS and enjoyed the taper in
the weeks before! Points are hard to come by at this meet…only the top 8
swimmers from the morning swims qualify for finals in the evening, unlike many
other championship meets where there are two heats of finalists. Once again,
the Mustangs displayed their depth and strength by finishing 7th
place out of over 70 teams—only 5 ½ points out of 6th—and scoring
another banner to hang at Loos!
Special congratulations goes to the following 7 swimmers
who qualified for finals in individual events, scoring much coveted points for
the team: Harrison Tran (10), Jake Watters(10), Luke Blaylock(10), Scott Weeks(14),
John Aselton(14), Taylor Temple(12), and Kendall Williams(12).
A special congratulations to Scott Weeks for being state champion in 200 fly and 500 free!
Finally, kudos to the Mustang boys 13-14 state champion
relays: 400 Free Relay (John Aselton, Malin Kenny, Scott Weeks, and Tim
Moore), and the 800 free relay (Aselton, Fernando Lara, Greg Hoffman, and Weeks).
Listed below are all Mustangs who qualified to swim at

Sectionals Championships
Thirty three of our Mustang
swimmers attended the Sectional Championship meet held in College Station from
March 2nd-5th. Teams from states such as Louisiana,
Arkansas, California, and Utah traveled to College Station to compete at this
prestigious meet. Almost all of our National swimmers qualified to compete and
many of them made it to one of the finals heats at night. The Mustangs finished
a commendable fourth place against some of the top teams in the nation.
Congratulations to the following swimmers who represented our team (bolded
names indicate scoring points).
Clint Hallum, Lauren Roth, Katherine Jones, Alyssa Landino, Bri Barfield, Max Murphy, Matt Thompson, Colin
Carpenter, Nick Kalivas, John Kalivas, Jack Dwyer, Lamar Weeks, Andrew Tran, Meredith

Way to go,

Greater Southwest Invitational
The annual “Greater Southwest” Invitational was held at
Loos Natatorium on the weekend of February 3rd-5th.
Hundreds of swimmers came from Kansas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Ohio, and all parts
of Texas to swim with the best at this prestigious prelims-finals meet. The
Mustangs had an excellent 4th place showing out of 50 teams with
many of our Nationals swimmers only competing in one out of the three
days. Forty DM swimmers qualified to
swim in finals and several Mustangs broke records and/or won their events. In
the 10 and under boys age group, Harrison Tran broke the GSW record in
the 50 back with a time of 32.14. Competing in the senior girls age group, Spin
Beck broke the GSW record, North Texas record and Texas State record in the
100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM!!! In addition, her 400 IM time of
4:19.25 broke the North Texas record and Texas state record. Way to go, Spin!

DM Tuition Policy Reminder
The Dallas
Mustangs is a competitive year round age-group swimming program. As such we strive to provide consistent
quality coaching and workout facilities.
To achieve this goal we establish pool rental contracts and salary
commitments with our coaching staff for a full 12-month period. Tuition amounts
are established based on the 12-month budget and divided into monthly or
quarterly amounts to provide reasonable payment options for our Dallas Mustang
families. The Dallas Mustangs Swim Team
is not, and was not designed to be a swim program where swimmers drop in one
month and out the next. Flexibility has
always been important to us. We try to
work with each family on the team and we will continue to do so.
Tuition may be paid
quarterly: September, December, March, and June, or monthly. Tuition paid monthly includes a $5.00 per
month processing fee. (If tuition for
the quarter is not paid by the due date, monthly payment has automatically been
selected.)
·
Tuition is
due from September through August. (If
you swim in July, you are responsible for August tuition.)
·
Tuition is
due on the 1st of each month/quarter.
·
Leave of Absence (LOA) is available only
for injury and medical reasons.
·
There will
be a $10.00 per month tuition discount for the second and subsequent swimmers
in the same family. The fourth swimmer
is free, but all swimmers must pay the annual registration fee.
·
A swimmer
transferring from another team must be in good standing with their old team.
·
Statements
are only mailed quarterly. If you have chosen to pay monthly, it is your
responsibility to remember to mail or drop off tuition by the first of each
month that we do not send statements.
·
There will
be a $5.00 per family late fee after the 10th of the month for non-zero balance
accounts.
·
The swimmer(s) may be barred from
swimming if there is an aged account balance is excess of 60 days.
·
Please
indicate in the memo portion of all checks what the payment is for (i.e. Dues –
swimmer’s name, meet account, supplies, etc.).
·
If there
is a problem with your billing, please contact the treasurer.
·
Should
circumstances prevent full payment of your tuition, please contact the
president. Scholarships and alternate
payment plans will be addressed on a case by case basis. (Please Note: Lack of communication is not
an option!)
·
Should you
choose to leave the team – it is your responsibility to contact the treasurer
or registration chairman. (Informing
the coach does not fulfill this responsibility!)
·
If you choose to leave the team for the
summer, you must go through the tryout process in the fall. You may not return
to workouts until you have attended the tryout, completed paperwork and paid
your fees. You are not automatically
guaranteed a spot on the team. If your group is full, your name will be placed
on the waiting list. Any tuition/fee
balances that were not paid when you left the team must be paid prior to
re-joining the team.
·
If you
choose to leave the team at any point during the year, you MAY NOT represent
the Dallas Mustangs at any swim meet or event that occurs after the date you
have left the team. Should you choose to participate in a swim meet after you
have left the team, you must register for the meet and swim as unattached (Team
= UN).
·
Tuition
may be sent with the swimmer to the pool, or mailed to the Treasurer:
