DM Committee Chairmen Opportunities

The Dallas Mustangs have several on-going volunteer opportunities available.  If you think you might be interested in stepping up your involvement with the team, please consider one of these opportunities.  To volunteer or obtain more information regarding these opportunities please contact either Eric Futscher at pres@dmswim.com or Adele Wherry at jwherry@airmail.net.  The committee chairmen opportunities are:

Buddy Family Committee Chair

Coordinate assignment of new Mustang families to a volunteer Buddy family.  Buddy families make contact with the new family, introduce themselves and offer to answer any questions the new members may have.  The intent is to provide an additional friendly face/voice to welcome the new member and their families.  (Requires a concentrated effort in the fall, September/October, when we typically have 50 + new members and ongoing during the rest of the year as we add new members, approximately 3 – 6 per month.)

Loos Supply Assistant

Assist our current Loos Supply Chairman, Michael Hill, with the Loos supply room.  Coordinate with Michael to open the supply room on the designated days/times to allow for walk in equipment sales.  Assist with coordination of inventory and orders. (Requires scheduled availability at Loos a few hours each week, during workouts.)

Registration Chairman

Coordinate the registration of all new Dallas Mustangs members with the team and USA Swimming.  Annually coordinate the re-registration of all returning swimmers.  Works closely with the coaching staff and reviews attendance reports to identify when a swimmer has dropped off the team or needs additional paperwork.  Coordinate the member information flow to the Board, the Treasurer for billing and the Communications Chair for email address updates.  (Requires computer access, knowledge of Excel spreadsheet programs and a willingness to learn Hy-tek Team Manager program.  Access database knowledge is a plus.  Heavy commitment in the late summer and fall during new swimmer tryouts, mail out of re-registration packets to all current swimmers and the processing of the registration and re-registration paperwork.  Ongoing, but smaller time commitment during the remainder of the year, when we typically register 3 – 6 new members a month.)

Alumni Development Chair (New Position)

Develop an alumni database to include the mailing addresses and email addresses, etc. of our Mustang swimmers who have graduated from high school.  This is a new area and thoughts include adding an alumni section to our DM website, hosting an annual alumni social and developing a network for all our swimmers.  This network currently exists on an informal basis.  Additional ideas open to development.

Social News

Adult social – we are having an adult-only social on June 18th beginning at 6:30pm at the home of Wendy Begg and Tom Grubb (2229 High Country Drive, Carrollton, TX 75007).  Please bring an appetizer or a dessert to share with others. This is a very casual event so please feel free to dress accordingly! The coaches will hopefully all be there, so this is a good opportunity to get to know them better on a more relaxed level. Hope to see you there. Questions? Please call Wendy at 972-307-3128 or email her at dmswimmom@comcast.net

The summer fire-up party will be held at Loos pool on Tuesday, July 19th.  Workouts will be from 4-5:30pm, and the party will follow (swimmer recognition from championship meets and those  going on to TAGS/Sectionals/Nationals). We will be serving pizza and drinks for $3 per person. Please bring a dessert to share.

All Dallas Mustangs Volunteers Save These Dates:

July 13, 14, and 18.

The Dallas Mustangs will be hosting the DASA Division and All Star swim meets in July.   DASA stands for the Dallas Amateur Swimming Association.  DASA is the organization that promotes competitive swimming among Dallas area country clubs and other private social organizations.  Many of you may have a swimmer who swims in this organization during the summer.  The DASA meets serve as our major fundraiser for the year, and we need all Dallas Mustangs parents and swimmers to lend a hand again in making these meets successful.  Double Mustang Mucks are awarded to all volunteers that assist in these meets.  The DASA meets serve as a major recruiting tool for the Mustangs.  Please save these dates in July:

Wednesday, July 13 and Thursday, July 14 - Divisional Meets

Monday, July 18 - All Stars.

Volunteers will be needed for set up, teardown, timing systems, computer operations, hospitality, heet sheet sales, clerk of course, runners, etc.

Please contact our meet director, Jim Cuaderes, if you would like to volunteer for the DASA meets.  Jim can be contacted by phone at (214) 880-8113 (work) or (214) 340-1938 (home), or by e-mail at jcuaderes@littler.com or quadlawyer@aol.com.
