Mustangs Finish Strong at US Open

Eighteen Mustangs traveled to San Antonio for the United States Open Championships and competed against teams from all over the USA, as well as teams from eight different countries.  Our team’s second place finish was the highest finish ever for the Mustangs at the US Open.  Codie Hansen, Meredith Monroe, and Ed Wagner led the Mustang charge by scoring individually and once again, our relays came through with some remarkable performances.

Congratulations to this year’s US Open team: Back row, L to R: Clint Hallum, Eric Gusa, Byron Carlisle, Brooks Haller.

Second row from top: Meredith Monroe, Kate Gunning, Codie Hansen, Caroline Barnett.

Third row from top: Spin Beck, Maddie Steiner, Alyssa Landino, Steph Futscher.

Mustangs Defend Kerr McGee Team Title

The Mustangs defended their team title at this season’s Kerr McGee Elite Pro-Am, which was held in Oklahoma City on the weekend before Christmas.  This is always a quality meet and attracts swimmers from all over the country because it is one of the few meets that offers prize money.  Those athletes who are finished with their NCAA eligibility can earn money by finishing in the top three.  Those athletes who want to remain amateurs can earn credits, which can be collected for merchandise at the D & J Sports booth set up at the meet.   The Mustang scoring onslaught was led by Codie Hansen, who won the 200 back. Additionally, every Mustang relay scored in the top sixteen.

The following Mustangs scored individual points during the meet:  Caroline Barnett, Spin Beck, Amanda Bensen, Jonathon Berrettini, Candace Blackman, Jennifer Blackman, Molly Bollen, Byron Carlisle, Lance Carriaga, Steph Futscher, Meredith Grubb, Eric Gusa, Brooks Haller, Clint Hallum, Courtney Hamilton, Codie Hansen, Alyssa Landino, Meredith Monroe, Alex Oldenkamp, Katie Roberts, Lauren Roth, Matt Thompson, and Kenneth Wherry.

Way to go Mustangs!!!

Haunted Hat Invitational (October 8-10)

A team record of 150+ Mustang swimmers showed up to swim at our annual Fall BB/B/C meet held at Loos.  We finished with twice as many points as the runner-up team (COPS).  Since this was the first short course meet for all our BB/B/C swimmers this season, we saw many best times. Congratulations to all our Mustangs!  Below is a listing of those who scored points in any of the three divisions (C, B or BB):

Little Splashers Invitational (October 16-17)

Forty of our kids showed up to swim this fun 10 & under “unclassified” meet (that means anyone can swim in it – there are no qualifying entry times).  Since it was held at Loos Pool many of our young Mustangs had the opportunity to swim in a pool that they were already accustomed to. Despite the relatively low number of entries we had a strong outcome. Those who scored points in the meet are listed below.  Way to swim Mustangs!

Irving Swimmers BB/B/C Meet (October 29-31)

Finishing out what was a very busy month of October for many of our BB/B/C swimmers was this meet which was held at North Lake College in the “bubble.”  The meet was plagued by fire alarm issues and long delays.  Friday night the meet was over about 10:30 PM and that kind of set the tone for the weekend.  Many swimmers skipped events just so that they would not have to wait several hours before they could go home.  We had over eighty swimmers at the meet and all but three had at least one best time!  We finished well up in the standings as a team (2nd) and competed well in each of the three divisions at the meet.  Below is a listing of those fortunate enough to score points.  Great job to all our Mustang competitors!

Kendel Ahnell (12), Chistopher Alkire (10), Stephanie Arnold (8), Alethea Atkins (12), Alberto Bambach (10), Cassidy Beckwitt (12), Jack Beckwitt (13), Luke Blaylock (9), Sarah Blue (13), Jamie Carson (10), Michael Chambers (6), Andy Collins (14), Natalie Davis (9), Susan Duncan (10), Kendall Ernst (8), Megan Ernst (11), Caelan Freeman (7), Caroline George (8), Paul Gerard (13), Joe Gray (7), Laura Gray (9), Stephanie Grote (13), Bolton Harris (14), Tanner Harris (10), Lauren Hill (14), Mike Hubbs (22), Mikaela Johnson (6), Alex Knitch (11), Kate Kormos (8), Sydney Lacey (9), Meggie Lynn (10), Miyo Malouf (11), Meggy McVey (10), Kyle Morrisey (8), Kazoumi Motoike (8), Taubert Nadalini (9), Courtney Nichols (8), Sydney Patterson (10), Valerie Peckham (15), Megan Reardon (13), Clyde Rembert (16), Charlotte Rolfe (7), Delaney Rolfe (13), Matney Rolfe (15 ), Alyssa Rusch (9), Kyle Savage (15), Jessica Temple (14), Stephanie Temple (17), Meaghan Viveros (9), Ellie Ward (8), Jake Watters (9), Luke Westmoreland (11), Alexus Williams (12), Michael Withers (15)

LAC BB/B/C Meet (November 19-21)

This ended up being another test of our parents’ patience and dedication to their kids!  The BB/B/C meets this season so far have all been relatively large in terms of the number of entries (that has changed effective January 2005 with the division of BB and B/C meets).

Below is a listing of the swimmers who scored points in this meet.  Way to go Mustangs and Mustang Parents!

Kendel Ahnell (12), Christopher Alkire (10), Kristin Arnold (11), Elisa Banowsky (12), Scott Beckwith (120, Jack Beckwitt (13), Caroline Blaylock (7), Luke Blaylock (9), Sarah Blue (14), Haley Bybee (12), Yukun Chen (11), Skyler Clark-Fernandez (13), Andy Collins (14), Kylee Craggett (12), Mary Delph (11), Susan Duncan (10), Kendall Ernst (8), Megan Ernst (11), Mark Faubion (12), Alex Fraley (110, Caelan Freeman (7), Tiffany Futscher (7), Paul Gerard (130, Sarah Gerard (15), Stephanie Grote (13), Tanner Harris (10), Lauren Hill (14), Mike Hubbs (22), Gabi Jackson (8), Caitlin Klemme (9), Kristine Larsen (11), Miyo Malouf (11), Preston Morgenstern (10), Courtney Nichols (8), Alicia Nicoud (15), Sydney Patterson (10), Shelbi Purvis (9), Katie Radford (12), Natalie Rathjen (10), Clyde Rembert (16), Charlotte Rolfe (7), Delaney Rolfe (13), Matney Rolfe (15), Kati Smith (12), Lucy Stuart (7), Dylan Tcheng (7), Jessica Temple (14), Carolyn Thomas (9), Annaelyse Tullier (7), Bianca Valle (6), Lisa Van Amburgh (13), Caroline Whiteside (8), Daniel Withers (11), Michael Withers (15)

COPS BB/B/C Winter Solstice Meet (December 10-12)

About 75 kids swam in this holiday meet held at Oak Point Pool in Plano.  This probably was a bigger meet than any of the other ones this season.  Despite a huge parking lot it was difficult to find a spot for anyone who showed up more than a couple minutes late.  We swam well as a team again and our swimmers recorded an awesome number of best times while winning an impressive number of heats during the meet.  It got to be fun seeing that Mustang cap out front in so many races!

Below is a listing of the swimmers who scored points in any of the divisions.

Kendel Ahnell (12), Kristin Arnold (11), Scott Beckwith (12), Cassidy Beckwitt (12), Jack Beckwitt (13), Caroline Blaylock (7), Luke Blaylock (9), Sarah Blue (14), Jamie Carson (10), Yukun Chen (12), Rebecca Drapkin (14), Susan Duncan (10), Kendall Ernst (8), Megan Ernst (11), David Escamilla (16), Alex Fraley (11), Caelan Freeman (7), Lydia Gerard (11), Paul Gerard (13), Sarah Gerard (15), Anna Beth Gruber (11), Audrey Gruber (8), Emma Gruber (9), Olivia Gruber (6), Tanner Harris (10), Lauren Hill (14), Celia Holmes (9), Berkley Johnson (9), Brodie Johnson (11), Mikaela Johnson (6), Sydney Lacey (9), Madeline Lynn (8), Meggie Lynn (10), Miyo Malouf (11), Will McNamara (11), Andy Miller (18), Preston Morgenstern (10), Courtney Nichols (8), Jeffrey Nichols (11), Maddie Nieberlein (13), Katie Radford (12), Laura Rathjen (8) Natalie Rathjen (8), Megan Reardon (14), Delaney Rolfe (13), Matney Rolfe (15), Andrea Scheer (8), George Scheer (10), Marianne Scheer (12), Callie Scheffler (10), Lucy Stuart (9), Jessica Temple (14), Stephanie Temple (17), Annelyse Tullier (7), Meaghan Viveros (9), Luke Westmoreland (11), Jeff Wherry (17), Parker Wilson (8), and Vicky Wu (11).

Social News

  • The short course season “Championship Meets Fire-up Party” is scheduled for Monday, February 28th at Loos Natatorium. THERE WILL NOT BE ANY PRACTICES AT THE OTHER POOLS. Practice will be held from 5:30-6:30pm followed by the usual fire-up party fanfare. Flyers and further information will be distributed at a later date but for now keep that date noted on your calendar.

  • Age group social activities: If anyone is interested in organizing social activities for a particular swim group, (Bronze, Silver or Gold) please contact Maryann Martin at social@dmswim.com. An age-group activity is something which only the swimmers from the individual swim groups would be involved in, not the entire team. It would hopefully allow the kids to interact more easily and perhaps allow parents to become better acquainted as well. These activities will not be funded by the swim team and don’t necessarily have to cost anything – it simply should be fun and appropriate for the particular aged child involved.
