Volunteers Needed for DASA Meets!

As most people know, we have the DASA meets coming up on July 14th, 15th and 19th. DASA is a series of country club divisional meets followed by an All-Star meet. As this is our big fundraiser, we absolutely need everyone’s help. It is a great time to “get your feet wet” (no pun intended) if you are new to volunteering at meets. We need announcers, head timers, runners, awards and hospitality workers, computer operators and timing operators, head safety coordinators, etc.  Sign up sheets will be going up at  Loos and Highland Park pools. Volunteers can email Jim Cuaderes, meet director, at jcuaderes@littler.com or call him at 214-880-8113 (work), 214-340-1938 (home) or 214- 912- 8598 (cell).  We are urging everyone to become involved. And remember, if you work this meet, we award double Mustang bucks (see description of program below) AND we all go out to eat at the conclusion of the meet!

Here is the schedule:

Divisionals, Wednesday, July 14

Division C warm-up 8am, meet starts at 9am.

Division B warm-up 12:00 noon, meet starts at 1:00 p.m.

Divisionals, Thursday, July 14

Division D & E warm-up 8am, meet starts at 9am.

Division A warm-up 12:00 noon, meet starts at 1:00 p.m.

All-Stars, Monday, July 19

Warm-up at 3pm, meet starts at 4pm

Mustang Bucks

Mustang Bucks are a tuition credit incentive program. Mustang Bucks credits can be earned through volunteer service at the swim meets we host, sales of meet advertising and lane sponsorships and referral of new swimmers to the Dallas Mustangs. All Mustang Bucks credits are applied at the beginning of the swimmers next swimming quarter. Mustang Bucks have no tangible cash value and can only be applied as a credit on future tuition payments.

Mustang Bucks may be earned for:

Volunteer Service

Mustang Bucks are issued for qualified volunteer service at the swim meets we host. Mustang Bucks for meet volunteer service (four opportunities per year) are issued as follows:

  • 5-10 hrs per meet/event - $10
  • More than 10 hrs per meet/event - $25

Note: up to two members of one family may qualify for Mustang bucks per meet/event.

All volunteer jobs at the swim meets we host, except for lane timers, qualify for Mustang bucks. Other qualifying opportunities will be identified in conjunction with the event. Older swimmers may qualify for Mustang Bucks if they are capable of filling a volunteer spot in the same capacity as an adult. Volunteers must sign in and out at the activity to be eligible for Mustang Bucks. Questions regarding the volunteer program may be addressed to any Board member or the person responsible for the meet/event.

Advertising/Lane Sponsor Acquisition for Swim Meets

Every family is encouraged to assist in the sale of advertising in the heat sheets and lane sponsorships for each of the swim meets hosted by the Dallas Mustangs. Mustang Bucks credits will be issued to a swimmer equal to 25% of the advertising and lane sponsorship value sold by the swimmer’s family.

New Swimmer Referrals

Swimmers and their families are encouraged to let their friends and associates know about the Dallas Mustangs. A Mustang Bucks credit of $50 will be issued to a swimmer referring a new swimmer to the Dallas Mustangs. (Note: the new swimmer must list the current Dallas Mustang swimmers/family name on their registration form in the “referred by” section).

Advertising in the DASA Heat Sheets

Below you will find a copy of the Dallas Mustangs Ad Contract. In years past, swimming families have contributed to the fundraising efforts of the team by soliciting ads for the DASA heat sheets. It is, as was previously explained, a series of meets that is very well attended by parents from all over the metroplex. These same parents could be potential clients for businesses run or owed by our swimming families. If you or anyone you know would like to submit an ad in the heat sheets, please fill out the meet contract and follow the directions for payment etc. The ad will run in 5 heat sheets thereby getting a lot of exposure! It’s a great opportunity and ultimately financially benefits our team.

USA Swimming Club Excellence Program

We have been awarded the Silver Medal Club designation in the USA Swimming Club Excellence Program for 2004.  This allows us to use this designation in all club advertising and promotional material as well as apply for a grant of up to $3000.00.

A more thorough description of the program as well as a complete list of the teams qualifying as Gold, Silver and Bronze clubs in this program, is available on the USA Swimming website at this link. There was lots of competition for these designations and we finished near the top of the Silver Medal Clubs.

Way to go Dallas Mustangs!

Another Record Broken!

Recently the Dallas Mustangs took a small group to the Senior Circuit Champs meet in Austin Texas. It was at that meet that some of our girls broke a National relay record! The team comprised of Jennifer Blackman, Codie Hansen, Katie Roberts, and Candace Blackman, broke the National 17-18 year old girls 400 meter freestyle relay record with a time of  3:52.25. Congratulations girls!

Supplies at HP Pool

Please note that swim caps, suits etc. can be purchased at HP pool on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 6-7pm. The person who is handling all supply sales at this time is coach Rory Callaghan.
