There have been a few questions that have come up recently regarding swim meet information and meet entry deadlines. The following information will hopefully clarify any “fuzzy” areas or answer any questions that might exist.
The North Texas LSC, of which we are a member, has a website http://www.ntswim.org/. It is very well maintained and is full of information that impacts our team and our swimmers. If you have not yet explored it, please do so. If you don’t, you are missing opportunities to stay informed about the sport.
Once on the website, you will find an extensive menu to the left of the main page. At the very top of the list is the “Calendar”. This calendar includes all meets and events that our swimmers and volunteers in our LSC can potentially participate in. It is updated prior to the calendar year, when teams bid on the meets they wish to host. If you want to know what meets are available for your swimmer, this is the place to look. It includes the dates, meet or event name, the host team and divisions which are eligible to swim in the particular meets. That link is http://www.ntswim.org/calendar.html.
Once you have determined what swim meets your child is eligible to participate in, you can then go back to the main page and click on the link “Meet Information”. There you can read, download and print a copy of the host team meet information. Meet information should be posted approximately 30 days prior to the scheduled meet and is often posted earlier than this 30 day deadline. Furthermore, the information is identical to what is posted at our pools, with one exception – and this is important: The meet entry deadline that is listed in the meet information on-line, is the deadline for team entries and does not apply to individual entries being submitted at our pools. All individual swimmers’ meet entries must be submitted to the DM pools the Thursday prior to the deadline listed in the host meet information. Doug Moyse, our Head Age Group Coach, then sends a consolidated entry for our team to the host team, by the entry deadline listed on-line.
For instance, consider the following information posted for an upcoming meet:
“Entry Deadline: Entries must be received by 6:00 pm on Tuesday, June 1, 2004. Email
entries
as an attachment with a word meet entries report by name. Entry
fees, made payable to GCAT,
must be postmarked on June 1, 2004. Entries and fees should be sent
to…”
If you were entering your swimmer in this meet, you would disregard the information in the “Entry Deadline” paragraph. You would then submit to the pool, your swimmers’ entries (with a check attached for entry fees) by Thursday, May 27th. Doug would then collect and send our team entries to the host team by June 1st.
Should you miss the team deadline, you will have to “late enter” the meet, provided that is allowed (that information is also included in the meet information). Late entries are submitted the day of the meet to the host team, usually at Clerk of Course. In general, late entry fees are double the original entry fees.

If you need help deciding what meets to enter your child in or what events would be appropriate, please speak with your child’s coach.
The swim banquet is being held Sunday, May 2nd at 5pm at SMU's Umphrey Lee Ballroom. The banquet will include dinner, a guest speaker, swimmer recognition and team highlights/slide show. Also, elections will be held for the The Dallas Mustangs Parent Association Board of Directors. Our nine member Board of Directors is elected for two-year terms with four (4) members elected in even years and five (5) members elected in odd years. Our Board is a “working board”, in that each member chairs/coordinates a specific operating area of the club such as fundraising, publicity, newsletter, meet direction, etc. Upon arrival at the banquet, each family should check in at the registration table to receive a ballot for the elections. Additionally, there will be the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets and sign up to volunteer at the 23rd Annual Dallas Mustang Classic “A” Long Course Invitational Swim Meet, being held at SMU on May 21-23.

the works for the summer. The team is now planning a trip to

forth to the meet. It is rumored that adult social activities are also being
planned!
