Mustang Monthly - Internet Edition
April 2004
The Loos Bronze I and Bronze II groups will relocate to our Carrollton-Farmers Branch Natatorium location beginning Tuesday, April 13th. Please note that this is a change from the email that was sent out and is due to the CFBISD holiday schedule. On April 12th, Bronze 1 & 2 will practice at Loos from 5:30-6:30pm. The Bronze groups will swim at our CFB location from 5:30 – 6:30 PM Monday through Friday evenings. This change will coincide with the re-configuration of the pool at Loos to a 50-meter pool with 8 lanes, rather than the current 2 25-yard pools with 16 lanes. Normally, the pool at Loos remains configured as 2 25-yard pools until very close to the end of the school year when we begin our summer workout schedule. This year being an Olympic year, has made it necessary to change the configuration of the pool in April to facilitate those athletes training for Olympic Trials.
While we know that this may be a small inconvenience for
some team members, we feel it will enable us to provide the most beneficial
workout/training for all team members.

“A” Championships
This season’s North Texas “A” Championships were held at the Grapevine Colleyville Natatorium on February 20-22, 2004. For some, this was the big “shave and taper” meet of the season and those swimmers were trying to extend their season by qualifying for higher level meets in the weeks to come. For others, it was the last chance to sharpen skills in preparation for TAGS (Texas Age Group Championships) and United States Sectionals. Congratulations to our swimmers on a great meet and a great season!

Stephanie Futscher was left out of the Kerr McGee results by mistake. She was one of our individual scorers. Sorry Steph.

Those swimmers who competed for the team are listed in alphabetical order below. Their ages are listed immediately after their names in italics. Those that placed first in their division (BB, B, or C) in at least one event are listed in italics. Several Mustangs swam well enough to make some hard to get “A” times. Special congratulations to Morgan Bowser, Haley Bybee, Paul Gerard, Leah Jones, Maddie Nieberlein, and Trayce Womack for achieving at least one “A” time at the meet. Awesome job Mustangs!

TAGS Short Course Champs (March 4-7)
The 2004 Short Course Texas Age Group Championships was held at the friendly confines of Alfred J. Loos Natatorium. While we were not fortunate to earn a coveted banner this winter, your Mustangs finished a hard fought and well-swum 13th place. One of our strongest swimmers Lauren Roth had to miss the meet due to a shoulder injury that kept her from competing in the 13-14 Girls individual and relay events. Other teams might have encouraged her to swim “through the pain” but we encouraged her to be ready for another day so that she did not injure herself further. We are pleased that she now is back in the “swim” of things and looks forward to a strong showing this summer.
While we didn’t have as many scoring opportunities as we would have liked, we were very proud of the many swimmers who did don their Mustang caps, suits, and T-shirts in support of our efforts. It was nice to see many future and past TAGS swimmers in the stands cheering on their fellow team members. That is just one of the many things that make our team so great. There were many kids who made the meet as a relay only swimmer this year that got a taste of the “big-time” and they liked it.
Great role models Spin Beck and Matt Thompson led the team in individual points, although Matt’s did not count for the team since he only had recently joined the team to compete as a Mustang. Congratulations to Spin who achieved her first US Open qualifying time in the 200 breast with a time of 2:20.00. Although Spin got second in that event she broke the previous TAGS record for that event and also acheived a T16 time!
Below is a listing of those swimmers who qualified for the meet. Those whose names are italicized qualified in individual events. Bolded names represent swimmers who scored individual points. All swimmers have their age listed in the parenthesis following their names. Way to go Mustangs!

This year’s short course TAGS Championship meet was hosted by our LSC and held at Loos. The Mustangs had a rather sizeable chunk of volunteer spots to fill (setting up before and tearing down after the meet was over), providing many, many timers and providing one computer operator for every session run. Our sincere thanks to all of you who volunteered your time and supported our team in this undertaking. We not only filled our required spots for timers but filled in for other teams. Many of the parents who worked the meet did not have any swimmers in the meet at all! Additionally, the “older” swimmers (15 and up) were visible in their volunteer efforts and cheering as well. So thank you swimmers and parents for your continued support of the best team in this LSC!
It is April and the premier social event of the year is just around the corner. Have you turned in your Dallas Mustang Swimmer Banquet request? If not, do no wait as April 22nd is the last day that reservations will be accepted. This year promises good food, swimmer recognition and awards for all swimmers who attend, recognition of graduating seniors,a guest speaker and the ever popular slide show of our very own Dallas Mustang swimmers! Please submit your reservation form (found at the pools or at website www.dmswim.com) along with a check for $23 for each swimmer and family member attending. See you there.
Any questions? Call Maryann Martin @ 214-821-7588 or any of your coaches.
This is the last call for photos for the slideshow. If you have any photos that you think would be good for the slideshow, please contact me. I very much prefer digital photos (can be emailed to me or put on a CD) but will take actual prints to scan in (better still if you scan them and then save them as jpeg files and send those to me!). Scanning lots of pictures just takes time and in years past I have spent hours scanning in pictures. In general, it seems that I need more photos from HP and CFB. Also, if you are a graduating senior and would like to be included in the slideshow, please submit 5-6 photos (from younger to recent years) to me ASAP.
Please remember to put pictures in an envelope if they are prints and put your name on the envelope – they will be returned to you the night of the banquet.
