MEET REPORTS

Championship Season

The Dallas Mustangs have some extremely exciting weeks ahead. The Mustangs have strong teams traveling all over the world to participate in championship meets. We will be taking 43 swimmers to Austin for this year’s Texas Age Group Championships. There we will look to add to our squad traveling to Florida for the Junior Championships. Then it’s off to Indianapolis for the United States Olympic Trials, where we will have a team record of swimmers. We will also have swimmers competing for Olympic births at the Egyptian and Greek swimming trials. Which leads us to the most exciting swim meet on earth, the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, and yes, the Mustangs will be represented there as well. We wish all of these Mustangs the best as they prepare for their meets, and remind them that all Mustangs young and old will be routing for them all the way.

It’s great to be a Mustang!

COACHES COMMENTS

DASA meet

A big thank you goes out to all DASA volunteers. At the writing of this newsletter, there is the All-Star Meet yet to go. The team has succeeded thus far, in hosting a very large meet over the course of two days. It has been an impressive undertaking, considering we were not given much time to prepare. The swimmers who have participated have been impressive workers and are to be congratulated for their dedication to their team. Thank you to all the parents who have worked long hours, allowed their swimmers to work the meet, donated food, etc. This sort of enthusiasm is the best PR tool we have!

Special thanks go to Jamie Jester, who took on the task of Meet Director on very short notice; to Adele Wherry, who did all the meet entries and organized the computer operations; to Lori Bannon, who organized efficient ready benches; to Marie Blackman, who made sure that Hospitality was well stocked for all the volunteers, coaches and officials; and to Coach Doug Moyse, who recruited the help of our swimmers and made sure all stations were manned.

For those of you who did not or who were unable to participate, you missed an opportunity to see true team spirit at work. Swimmers who worked the meet, were able to view it from the "other side" – the side of the workers. Hopefully they have gained some insight as to the amount of work that is involved in organizing and running a meet. Once again, thanks and congratulations to all for a job well done! Keep up the great work!

Go Mustangs!
