Thanksgiving Clinic Huge Success!

The Volvo sponsored Thanksgiving Stroke Clinic at SMU's Perkins Natatorium provided DM swimmers of all ages and their parents with an opportunity to receive World Class advice and coaching assistance. Organized by Eddie Sinnott, SMU Men's Team Head Coach and Mook Rhodenbaugh, Dallas Mustangs Head Coach, the clinic featured Q & A sessions with Eddie and 1999 World Short-course 100M Butterfly Champion, Lars Frolander. Jim Henry, SMU Assistant Coach assisted with in pool activities. Over a dozen of the current members of the SMU Men's swim team guided the swimmers by leading the lanes during each of the four strokes practiced.

Teammates exchange some, "what you been doin' over break"…."uh, nothin' how 'bout you" talk and settle in for a short talk prior to the action in the pool.

At right, Eddie Sinnott, Head Coach of the SMU Men's Swimming Team prepares the troops with a run down of the activities during the clinic. Eddie, recognized as one of the premier swim coaches in the world, is a great friend of the Dallas Mustangs swim team and assists our Gold and National Group members during summer morning practices at SMU.

At left, Doug Moyse, Dallas Mustangs Head Age-Group Coach keeps a watchful eye on on the activities. In addition to organizing our age-group program, Doug coaches the Silver Group at the Highland Park High School Pool and the Blue Group at the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Natatorium.

Teammates are suited up and ready for the two-hour stroke clinic. Thirty minutes were spent on each stroke with SMU swimmers helping in each lane.

Sarah Wells, a member of the Dallas Mustangs National Group, practices her streamline during some deck exercises that started the clinic.

At right, Mook Rhodenbaugh, Dallas Mustangs Head Coach, offers encouragement to the swimmers during a drill. The sour look may have something to do with Jeff's breaststroke form (see far right photo).

Jeffrey Wherry a 7th Grader at Ted Polk Middle School in Carrollton bubbles up during the breaststroke. Gee, his goggle lenses match his hair!

Jennifer Penley, with the Dallas Mustangs Gold Group, comes toward the surface during backstroke drills.

At left, Lars Frolander, Dallas Mustangs Hall of Fame Member, wrapped up the clinic by going over his race day routine. He also answered a wide range of questions. Lars is the holder of the World Record in the 100 yard Butterfly. He was Silver Medalist in the 1998 World Championships in the 100M Butterfly and Gold Medalist in the same event at the 1999 World Short-course Championships. He is in training for the 2000 Olympic games.

Preston Yetts, and Dad wrap up the day. Preston is a 6th grader at Arbor Creek Middle School in Carrollton. Preston, the camera is over this way!

Many thanks to Mook and Doug Moyse for organizing this great event over the Holiday!

Caleb Veazey and Dad are ready for some leftover Turkey!

Our hats are off to Eddie, Jim, Lars and the rest of the SMU Men's Swim Team for staging a super clinic!
