Led by a talented
field of 40 athletes, the Dallas Mustangs Swim Team posted the winning score at
the December 18-21 Kerr McGee Corporation Pro-Am Elite Meet. Head Coach Mook Rhodenbaugh credited his
team’s depth and hard work as a reason for this outstanding performance. Rhodenbaugh summarized the meet results by
explaining that “Our women’s team won a tremendous battle for first place among
female competitors and our men’s team also delivered a huge performance. We had 27 of our athletes scoring points at
this meet, so it shows the depth and commitment of our swim team. We also were dominant throughout the relays
and that helped deliver crucial points to our club.”
Relays were a
particular strength for the Dallas Mustangs swimmers. The women’s “A” relays, comprised of Jennifer Blackman, Codie
Hansen, Dallas Marshall, and Katie Roberts, placed first in both the 400-yard
and 800-yard free relays. These and
other women also combined for three second place, one third place, one fifth
place and one eighth place finish.
“Every women’s relay placed in the top 8 at this meet. “Rhodenbaugh
stated, “But we couldn’t have won without exceptional performances from our men
as well.” In fact, the combination of
swimmers Matt Weghorst, Byron Carlisle, Jonathon Berrettini and Jeff Benson was
victorious in the 400-yard free relay and took third in the 200-yard free
relay.
“This was an exciting
meet highlighted by a lot of great individual and relay performances.”
Rhodenbaugh said. “It really motivates
the entire team when our swimmers have this kind of success.”
