Long Course Championships

The Mustangs once again went down to Austin, TX to compete in the Texas Age Group Swimming Championships (TAGS), and once again they would bring home a TAGS flag with a 9th place finish.  Matt Thompson was the leading contributor for the Mustangs as he claimed 1st place in three events and set a new meet record in the 100 back.  Lauren Roth, Spin Beck, Caleb Veazey, Stephanie Martin, Meg Austin, and Eric Futscher also chipped in with individual point scoring swims.

The Mustangs claimed another 1st place finish at the Long Course Speedo Sectional Championships in Austin, TX to complete the sectional sweep for the year.  The Mustangs topped more than 60 teams from across the country to once again stake a claim to being one of the nation’s elite teams.  Once again the team was paced by strong relay performances, and Candace Blackman who won four individual events.

The big meet of the season was once again the U.S. Olympic Trials held in Long Beach, CA.  Candace Blackman (50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 100 fly), Katie Roberts (200 free), and Codie Hansen (100 free, 200 free) all did the Mustangs proud under the California sun.  Katie Smith (100 back, 200 back, 200 IM) also represented the Mustangs at the Canadian Olympic Trials.

 Short Course Championships

The Mustangs began the 2004 short course championship season with another strong showing at the Texas Age Group Swimming Championships (TAGS) held in Addison, TX.  The Mustangs finished the meet in 13th place out of 63 teams.  Pacing the team with strong individual performances were Clint Hallum, Spin Beck, Caitlin Koranda, Matt Thompson, Alicia Stevens, Stephanie Martin, and John Bannon.

To complete the season the Mustangs sent a strong team down to College Station, TX to compete in the Short Course Speedo Sectional Championships.  The Mustangs posted a strong performance across the board to run away with the overall team title by more than 300 points.  Leading the way to the teams first Sectional Championship were Codie Hansen and Candace Blackman as they finished first and second in the high point standings.  The other Mustangs that contributed to the title were:
