Dallas Mustangs head coach, Mook Rhodenbaugh, has recently been recognized by the United States Olympic Committee as 2004 U.S.A. Pentathlon National Coach of the Year.
Now you may say…hold on a minute…Mook’s my swim coach…what’s this Pentathlon thing? For those that may be new to the team or older team members with short memories, a long-time member of the Dallas Mustangs, Dennis Bowsher, is now the defending U.S. National Pentathlon Champion and on a solid track to represent the United States in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Dennis joined the Mustangs when he was 8 years old and progressed through the team finishing his last 3 years with the National Group. He graduated from WT White High School in 2001 and was a 4A State Swimming Medalist in the 200 IM and 100 Breast. Dennis was also a member of his high school’s cross country team. After high school, Dennis chose to stay local and take classes at Brookhaven and continue workouts with Mook and the Mustangs.
During the year following high school, Dennis considered different paths and options during many talks with Mook. Mook has a close bond with his swimmers, has won numerous coaching awards, and, during his years of competition, competed at the highest level internationally. You don’t achieve these honors by accident – Mook cares for every athlete as an individual and has a sense for the make-up of a world-class athlete. He looks for opportunities that best fit an athlete’s talents. Mook recognized Dennis’ running speed, all-around athleticism and continued desire and commitment to compete and excel and pointed him toward Pentathlon.
Dennis will be competing and defending his championship at the U.S. Pentathlon National Championships being held June 24-26, 2005 in Colorado Springs, CO.
Congratulations Mook – Dennis We’re Rooting for
You!!!
