Mustang High School swimmers took the first step toward glory at the Texas UIL Regional Meets.  Mustang team members supported their high school teams admirably during Regionals leading their respective high schools toward championships and awards.

Qualifying for Texas High School UIL State Championships

In Texas High School UIL regional competition, 28 Mustangs qualified to swim at the 4A or 5A State Championships in Austin!  Congratulations to the following swimmers who qualified as one of the top 16 in the state in individual or relay events (swimmers winning an individual event in their region are indicated with bold italics.

UIL Texas State Championship Results

In the Texas High School UIL Championships held in Austin on Feb 25-26th

 

Mustang swimmers had a fantastic showing at finals bringing home a number of individual and relay medals at the State Championships held at UT-Austin. 

 

The Highland Park (HP) High School Women’s Team, fueled by a number of DM swimmers, won their fifth consecutive 4A State title.  Hats off to Leslie Clampitt, Jessica Shaw, Alexandra Jennings, Meredith Higgins & Alex Weber in their support of the HP victory.

 

The Frisco High School Men’s Team won their first 4A State title.  Senior leader Byron Carlisle was a key ingredient as the lone Frisco team member to win individual Gold. Byron swam backstroke on their Gold Medal 200 Medley Relay and anchored Frisco’s Silver Medal effort in the 400 Free Relay.

Oh-De-Bee Codie!

 

Codie Hansen, a Senior at Arlington Lamar, won TX-5A Championship Gold Medals in the 100 and 500 Freestyle.  Codie set all-time TX high school state records in both of these events.

 

These victories by Codie, takes her four-year individual medal total to 8 – ALL GOLD.  Codie becomes the first swimmer in state history to achieve this at the 5A level.

 

Codie, a former member of USA Swimming’s Junior National Team, will be attending Texas A&M next year and swimming for the Aggies.

Alex Oldenkamp Doubles Up!

 

Alex Oldenkamp, a Senior at Coppell High School, won TX-5A Gold in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events. This adds to his Gold Medal swim in the 50 Free during last year’s championship.

 

Next year, Alex will be attending the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis and swimming for the Midshipmen.

Leslie Breaks Through!

 

Leslie Clampitt, a Senior at Highland Park, won the TX-4A Championship Bronze Medals in the 50 and 100 Freestyles.

 

Leslie has been a key member of 4 state title winning HP women’s teams during her years at Highland Park.  This includes numerous medals as part of HP relay teams and team points for top 8 finishes in individual events at state.

Byron Carlisle receives his Gold in Austin

Byron Carlisle Wins Gold & Bronze!

 

Byron Carlisle, a Senior at Frisco High, brought home Gold in the TX-4A 100 Back and Bronze in the 100 Free.

 

This follows an outstanding effort during Byron’s Junior year when he won a Silver Medal in the 100 Backstroke and a Bronze Medal in the 100 Free.

 Meredith Grubb – A State Record!

 

Meredith Grubb, a Junior at Hebron High School, won the Gold Medal in the TX-4A 200 IM setting a 4A state record. Meredith rounded out an outstanding meet by winning Silver in the 100 Free.

 

This brings Meredith’s total individual medal count to 6 (out of 6). During her Sophomore year she won a Silver Medal in the 200 Free and Bronze in the 500 Free. During her Freshman year she won Silver in the 100 Breast and Bronze in the 500 Free.

Clint Hallum – Mesquite Poteet!

 

Clint Hallum, a Sophomore at Mesquite Poteet, medaled in two events in the TX-4A Championships.  Clint won a Silver Medal in the 500 Free and a Bronze in the 200 IM. 

Molly Bollen – Newman Smith!

 

Molly Bollen, a Junior at Carrollton Newman Smith High, medaled in the TX-5A Championships.  Molly won Silver in the 100 Fly and finished 6th in the 50 Free. 

Alicia Stevens – Hebron High!

 

Alicia, a Sophomore at Hebron High, brought home a Bronze Medal in the Backstroke in the TX-4A Championships.  Alicia also made finals in the 200 IM finishing 6th.

John Bannon – Highland Park!

 

John, a Sophomore at Highland Park, won a Silver Medal in the 200 Free in the TX-4A Championships.  John also competed in finals for the 100 Breast finishing 6th.

Stephanie Martin, a Freshman at Dallas Wilson, medaled in the TX-4A Championships.  Stephanie won Bronze in the 100 Breast. 

TAPPS State Championships

The Texas High School TAPPS State Swimming Championships were held in Austin on Feb 18-19th. DM Swimmers provided great support for their High School teams.  Congratulations to the following Mustang Swimmers who had top three finishes at TAPPS -

SPC State Swimming & Diving Championships

This championship, for smaller private schools throughout Texas, was held in Southlake on Saturday, Feb 12th.  Congratulations to the following Mustangs for top three finishes –
