Mustang High School swimmers took the first step toward glory at the Texas UIL Regional Meets. Mustang team members supported their high school teams admirably during Regionals leading their respective high schools toward championships and awards.
In Texas High School UIL regional competition, 30 Mustangs have qualified to swim at the State Championships in Austin! We’re sure this is a team record! Congratulations to the following swimmers who qualified as one of the top 16 in the state in individual or relay events –

The Texas High School TAPPS State Swimming Championships concluded on Saturday, February 14th and were held at Texas A&M in College Station. These championships are held among private schools in Texas. Congratulations to the following DM team members who brought home a gold, silver or bronze in individual events.
Jennifer Penley – 1st place Gold Medals in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle for Division III. Jennifer set all-time Division III meet records for both of these events.
Maggie Marshall – 2nd place Silver in the 100 breaststroke and 3rd place Bronze in the IM for Division I
Adriane Devereux – 3rd place Bronze in the Division I 50 freestyle.
Erin Fitzharris – 3rd place Bronze in the Division I 100 backstroke.
Mustang swimmers had a fantastic showing at finals bringing home a number of individual and relay medals at the State Championships held at UT-Austin.
The Highland Park (HP) High School Women’s Team, fueled by a number of DM swimmers, won their fourth consecutive 4A State title. Hats off to Leslie Clampitt, Caroline Jennings, Meredith Higgins, Jessica Shaw, Jennifer Blackman and Candace Blackman in their support of the HP victory.

Candace Blackman
Makes It a Perfect 16-0! Candace Blackman, a Senior at
Highland Park High School, won TX-4A Championship Gold Medals in the 100 Fly
and 200 Freestyle. Candace was
selected as TX-4A Women’s Swimming of the Year for 2004! These victories by Candace,
takes her four-year individual medal total to 8 – ALL GOLD out of 8 maximum
individual swims. You can’t get any better than that! During her 4-years at HP,
Candace also swam on 8 relays - all earning Gold…that’s right 16 swims and 16
Gold Medals! Candace, a former member of
USA Swimming’s Junior National Team, will be attending Southern Methodist
University (SMU) next year and swimming for the college Mustangs. |
Another Medal
for Jennifer Blackman! Jennifer Blackman, a Senior
at Highland Park High School, won a TX Gold Medal in the 100 Freestyle. As
noted above, Jennifer helped her HP teammates to Gold Medal performances in
two relays. These victories by
Jennifer, takes her four-year individual medal total to 7 – 6 gold and 1
silver out of 8 maximum individual swims. Counting her 8 Golds in relays,
that’s 14 Gold and 1 Silver Medal! Next year, Jennifer will be attending Southern Methodist University (SMU) and swimming for the college Mustangs. An Outstanding 4 Years Jennifer!

Katie Smith
Raises the Bar! Katie Smith, a Senior at Hebron
High, won the TX-4A Championship Gold Medal in the 200 IM and a Silver Medal
in the 100 Backstroke. During prelims, Katie established a new 4A state
record for the event 100 Backstroke and set a new 4A state record for the 200
IM in finals. Katie joined DM after
moving from her native Canada before her Junior Year. Over her 2-years of 4A competition, she
has won 2 Gold & 1 Silver Medal in individual events. Katie will be attending the
University of Michigan next year and swimming for the Wolverines. |
Katie Roberts
Adds to Her Count! Katie Roberts, a Senior at
Colleyville Heritage, brought home Silver Medals in the TX-5A 100 and 200
Freestyles. During 2003 state
competition, Katie won a Silver in the 200 Free and a Bronze in the 100 Free. Katie will be attending
Southern Methodist University (SMU) next year and swimming for the college
Mustangs. Way to Go Katie! |

Jonathan
Berrittini Doubles! Jonathan Berrittini, a
Senior at Lewisville High, brought home Bronze Medals in the TX-5A 100 Backstroke
and the 50 Free. During 2003 state
competition, Jonathan won a Bronze in the 100 Back. Jonathan will be attending
Texas Christian University (TCU) in the Fall and swimming for the Horned
Frogs. Great Going Jonathan! |

Codie Hansen
Keeps on Rollin’! Codie Hansen, a Junior at Arlington
Lamar High School, won the TX-5A Championship Gold Medals in the 100 and 200
Freestyles. Her narrow victories were
at the expense of friend and Dallas Mustang teammate Katie Roberts. These victories by Codie,
takes her three-year individual medal total to 6 – ALL GOLD out of 6 maximum
individual swims. Simply Awesome Codie! |
Codie Hansen, a former member of USA
Swimming’s Junior National Team, is the holder of all-time Texas High School
records in both the 100 and 200 Freestyle Events. Codie was selected TX-5A

Byron Carlisle –
Frisco High! Byron Carlisle, a Junior at
Frisco High School, medaled in the TX-4A Championships. Byron won a Silver Medal in the 100
Backstroke and a Bronze Medal in the 100 Free. |
Meredith Grubb – Hebron High! Meredith Grubb, a Sophomore at Hebron High
School, medaled in the TX-4A Championships. Meredith won a Silver Medal in
the 200 Free (closely following DM teammate Candace Blackman) and a won a
Bronze Medal in the 500 Free. |
