Mustang Power Fuels Numerous High School Championships!!

Mustang High School swimmers concluded the 2002-2003 in outstanding form.  Mustang team members supported their high school teams admirably during the season leading their respective high schools toward championships, setting records and receiving numerous awards.

Qualifying for Texas Championships

In the Texas High School Public School Championships, 23 Mustangs qualified to swim!  We’re guessing that this might be a team record.  Congratulations to the following swimmers who qualified as one of the top 16 in the state in individual or relay events –

Finals at the Texas Championships

Mustang swimmers had a fantastic showing at finals bringing home a number of individual and relay medals.  If one knew the swimmers on the Mustangs, weekend coverage in the Dallas Morning News looked more like the Dallas Mustang News.  Provided below are highlights from individual performances and action shots compliments of the Dallas Morning News.

Two More for Jennifer!

 

Jennifer Blackman, a Junior at Highland Park High School, won TX-4A Championship Gold Medals in the 50 and 100 Freestyles.  Jennifer helped her HP teammates to Gold Medal performances in the 200 Freestyle and 200 Medley Relay.

 

Jennifer, her twin sister Candace, and DM swimmers Leslie Clampitt, Caroline Jennings and Jessica Shaw led HP to their third consecutive Women’s 4A State Title.

 

These victories by Jennifer, takes her three-year individual medal total to 6 – 5 gold and 1 silver out of 6 maximum individual swims.

Katie Sets the Standard!

 

Katie Smith, a Junior at Hebron High, won the TX-4A Championship Gold Medal in the 100 Backstroke. During prelims, Katie established a new 4A state record for the event.

 

Last summer Katie moved from her native Canada to the Dallas area and joined the Mustangs.  It looks like the water south of the border suits her fine.

Candace Makes It SIX!

 

Candace Blackman, a Junior at Highland Park High School, won TX-4A Championship Gold Medals in the 100 Fly and 200 Freestyle.

 

These victories by Candace, takes her three-year individual medal total to 6 – ALL GOLD out of 6 maximum individual swims.

 

Candace, a member of USA Swimming’s Junior National Team, competed internationally representing the United States in Rome, Italy during the summer of 2002.

 

Great Going!

Codie Adds to Her Count!

 

Codie Hansen, a Sophomore at Arlington Lamar High School, won the TX-5A Championship Gold Medals in the 200 and 500 yd Freestyles.

 

These victories by Codie, takes her two-year individual medal total to 4 – ALL GOLD out of 4 maximum individual swims.

 

Codie, a member of USA Swimming’s Junior National Team, competed internationally representing the United States in Australia during January 2003.

Catholic Nationals

Andrew Hansen, Griffin Marshall and Matt Primeaux helped lead Jesuit Prep to a 2nd Place Team Trophy at the National Catholic School Men’s Championship.  Andrew won both the 100 and 200 freestyle events setting a new meet record in the 100 free.  He was named swimmer of the meet.  Griffin won the Silver Medal in the 100 breast.  Andrew, Griffin and Matt Primeaux were instrumental in Jesuit Prep relay victories that were a key to the team’s high finish.

TAPPS Championship

Members of DM attending private schools participated in the TX State TAPPS Championships.  Those team members medaling (top 3) at the championships were Adrienne Devereaux, Ursuline; Maggie Marshall, Addison Trinity; & Jennifer Penley, Dallas Cambridge.
