Mustangs Dominate High School Competition!!

Mustang High School swimmers concluded the 2001-2002 season winning a number of championships, setting records, receiving numerous awards and helping their high school teams step up on the awards platform!

Codie Hansen, freshman at Arlington Lamar High School, had a dream year during her first year of high school competition.  Codie concluded her first year at Lamar by bringing home 5A Texas Championship Gold in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle events.  In both events she established new TX State Records.  In the 200 free, her time was the best across the nation and less than 1 second off the all time U.S. national record set by former Olympian Cindy Woodhead in 1979.  Because of these accomplishments Codie was named Texas 5A Women’s Swimmer of the Year, Dallas Morning News Newcomer of the Year and was recognized as a High School All-America in three events (100, 200 and 500 yard freestyles).

Eric Gusa, Andrew Hansen, Griffin Marshall and Matt Primeaux helped lead Jesuit Prep to the National Catholic School Men’s Championship.  Eric finished first in the 50 free and second in the 100 fly at nationals and received All-America recognition in these events.  Andrew brought home the silver at nationals in both the 100 and 200 free events.  Andrew received All-America honors in the 100 free.

The powerful twin-sister act of Candace and Jennifer Blackman, both sophomores at Highland Park High School, fueled their team to a second straight Texas 4A Women’s team championship.  Jennifer established a new state 4A record winning the Gold in the 100 free and brought home Silver in the 100 back.  Jennifer was recognized as a High School All-America in the 100 Free. Candace established new 4A state records winning the 50 free and 100 fly and was named Texas 4A Women’s Swimmer of the Year.  Candace achieved All-America honors in both of these events.
