Candace Blackman – In Rome, Italy

One of our very own has just returned from Rome, Italy representing the USA on the Junior National Team! Candace Blackman left on May 29, 2002, to compete alongside 17 men and 13 other women from all over the United States, in an international swim. Candace qualified last year for membership on the U.S, National Junior Team.  She spent 4 days of training at the Olympic training center in Colorado this past fall.  Candace has already qualified in 4 events for the 2004 Olympic Trials to be held in Long Beach, CA.

Her other swimming accomplishments include qualifying for the 2000 Olympic trials at age 14, Junior National Champion for the 50 free, 4-time Texas High School individual champion, and team member on HPHS’ 2-time High School women’s team champions.

Codie Hansen – National High School Champion

Codie Hansen was recently recognized as U.S. National Women’s High School Champion in the 200 Yard Freestyle.  Codie, now preparing to enter her sophomore year at Lamar High School in Arlington, established the TX State record in this event (as well as in the 100 Yard Freestyle) at the Texas State High School Championships in February 2002. After results from all high school championships across the nation came in, Codie’s 200 Yard swim was the fastest in the nation!

Codie, recently selected as a member of the U.S. National Junior Team, is scheduled to represent our nation at international meets in Australia in January 2003.
