The Dallas Mustang high school swimmers showed their strength at various District, Regional and State level competitions during February and March 2001!

In U.S. Regional competition held in Philadelphia, PA, the Jesuit Prep swim team, powered by a number of Mustang swimmers took home 6^th place honors in the prestigious Eastern Prep Finals meet . Mustang team members pushing Jesuit were Jeff Girard, Eric Gusa, Jeff Shipp, Greg Henderson, Griffin Marshall and Andrew Hansen. Andrew Hansen finaled in the 200 Free placing 6^th and won the consolation in the 100 Free placing 7^th. Eric Gusa finaled in the 100 Fly finishing 6^th and won the consolation in the 50 Free placing 7^th. Jeff Girard finaled in the 200 IM finishing 5^th. Griffin Marshall and Jeff Girard finaled in the 100 Breast placing 5^th and 6^th respectively. In the 200 Medley Relay a "totally Mustang" team of Jeff Shipp, Jeff Girard, Eric Gusa and Andrew Hansen brought home a 4^th place finish. Congratulations Guys!

In Public School Division 5A, District Champions and/or Regional Finalists from the Mustangs included Armando Cajide, Sara Haney, Kenley Woods, Kelly Cobourn, Courtney Patterson, Brooke Louisell, Fabian Toth, Laura McGarrah, Sarah Wells and Kenneth Wherry.

In Public School Division 4A, District Champions and/or Regional Finalists from the Mustangs included Charlie Morris, Candace Blackman, Brian Jester, Jennifer Blackman, Claire Henderson, Brad Voreis, Whitney Henderson, Megan Bolanz, Dennis Bowsher and Megan McNamara.

Mustangs moving on to compete in State Finals from both Division 4A and 5A were Armando Cajide, Sara Haney, Kenley Woods, Kelly Cobourn, Courtney Patterson, Charlie Morris, Laura McGarrah, Sarah Wells, Dennis Bowsher, Brian Jester, Megan McNamara, Candace Blackman, Brad Voreis, Jennifer Blackman, Whitney Henderson, Claire Henderson and Kenneth Wherry.

At the State Championships the Mustangs continued to shine. Fueled heavily by DM power, the Highland Park Women's team won the 4A State Championship. Highlighting the HP victory were wins in all relays. These relays were filled with Mustangs swimmers! Mustangs placing in individual events at state in 4A were:

Candace Blackman 1^st - 200 Free and 1^st - 100 Fly

Jennifer Blackman 1^st - 100 Back and 2^nd - 100 Free

Claire Henderson 2^nd - 500 Free and 3^rd - 200 Free

Whitney Henderson 2^nd - 200 IM and 4^th - 500 Free

Dennis Bowsher 3^rd - 200 IM and 4^th - 100 Breast

Charlie Morris 10^th - 50 Free

Megan McNamara 5^th - 100 Free

Brad Voreis 5^th - 100 Free

Additionally, Candace Blackman, leading off the HP 200 and 400 free relays set a new 4A record in the 50 Free and tied the state record (all levels) in the 100 Free. Candace's times in the 200 Free and 100 Fly were the best in the state this year, regardless of level of competition.

In 5A competition, Mustang swimmers also showed their strength finishing strong in a number of events and relays. The Plano West Women's team, having 4 Mustang swimmers, took 9^th place state honors. Mustangs placing in individual events at state in 5A were:

Kelly Cobourn 9^th - 50 Free

Armando Cajide 8^th - 50 Free and 10^th - 100 Free

Courtney Patterson 4^th - 100 Back and 7^th 100 Fly

Kenneth Wherry 9^th - 500 Free

Sara Haney 10^th - 100 Breast

A superb performance this high school season!
